PauseChamp Twitch Emote - Meaning, Origin, PNG + More!

PauseChamp Meaning

PauseChamp is a BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ Twitch emote that is a slightly edited variant of the PogChamp emote. This variation features the famous face of Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez with lips closed in suspense. The emote is used in anticipation of the exciting, “hype” moment of the stream. It’s usually followed by a PogChamp spam in the chat.

PauseChamp Pronunciation:

PauseChamp Origin

It is believed that the first appearance of the emote is on FrankerFaceZ, uploaded by user PaulieLUL on May 7th, 2019. It has been used in 22,349 sets, but according to the emote’s page, PaulieLUL’s submission has been removed from FrankerFaceZ. On May 11th, 2019 user Nixi93 submitted the PauseChamp emote to BetterTTV and since then it’s been used by 45,714 channels.

FrankerFacez doesn’t have the “Gootecks” variant of PauseChamp, instead many other variations featuring faces of famous characters and streamers are present there. The most popular PauseChamp variant is the one with Pepe the Frog’s face. It was submitted by REZN0R on January 9th, 2021 and has been used in 9,852 sets.

PauseChamp Emote Popularity

The spread and popularity of PauseChamp on Twitch can be attributed to PogChamp, which is arguably the most famous emote on Twitch. Emotion wise, PauseChamp is a logical predecessor to PogChamp, satiating the need to express “the calm before the hype”.

Example

When the streamer is building up a “Pog” moment, as in something “hype” is about to happen, Twitch chat uses PauseChamp to express the anticipation for the said moment. It’s followed by the usage of “PogChamp” type emotes or something to that effect.
