modCheck Meaning

ModCheck is an animated emote of a fish from the TV show SpongeBob SquarePants turning around and looking over his shoulders. This emote is usually used in place of “who asked,” “any askers” or “where is it?” It is also used if there are no mods in chat, or if mods aren’t correctly doing their job of moderating chat.

modCheck Origin

ModCheck was first added to BTTV on September 15, 2019 by user VerbalSilence. It’s unknown how it came to be but started gaining popularity in 2020.

On July 28, 2020, Reddit users in the xQcOW subreddit petitioned to have it added to xQc’s channel, and the next day it was added.

It may have started as an emote to be used when mods weren’t in chat, but it has quite a few uses these days such as “who asked,” “any askers” or “where is it?”

ModCheck has become extremely popular, and is now one of the Top 25 most used emotes on Twitch.

Example

1. Your favorite streamer starts ranting or telling a story, chat will probably spam modCheck. Who asked?!

2. Someone in chat spams a questionable ASCII Art Copypasta that gets left unmoderated: MODS modCheck
