POGGERS Meaning
POGGERS is yet another version of Pepe the Frog. Pepe is shown wide-eyed with his mouth open looking to the left in excitement. This Twitch emote has a few different meanings but mostly used to express excitement and/or celebration.
POGGERS Origin
The birth of this infamous emote started when it was posted to Better Twitch TV (BetterTTV) on February 23rd, 2017. BetterTTV is much like FrankerFaceZ, where users can post emotes to the webpage and add the extension to their Twitch, which then allows them to use the emotes posted to the platform.
The spread of the emote is rather fast since it’s an iteration of the Pepe the Frog meme. Thanks to the mass popularity of Pepe, it didn’t take long for the emote to get its foot in the door.
It’s first real introduction to the community was on November 2nd, 2017. The emote had already started making its rounds through twitch when a user posted a question on Twitch asking what Poggers means.
This led to the post getting quite popular since there was still a decent amount of people at the time that heard the term “Poggers” but was unsure what it actually meant. From there on it became so prevalent that it eventually is used verbally almost as much as it is used in chat.
Example
Streamer: “YOOOOO did you just see me hit that triple kill to clutch the game?”
Chat: an endless rain of POGGERS.
